First Cider After Years
Table of Contents
After not homebrewing anything for 4 years at this point, I have finally decided to get back into the hobby. I am starting off with a cider instead of beer because it's stupid simple and I think a good way to ease myself back into the process.
1. Ingredients
Note: there is no different between Martinelli's Apple Juice and Martinelli's Apple Cider. They are the exact same. The only difference is the labeling because some people "simply prefer the traditional name for apple juice". The only reason I used a mixed of both is because I didn't have enough Apple Cider initially so I went out and bought Apple Juice.

3. Equipment
- 1 gallon carboy
- Hydrometer
- Beaker
- Funnel
- Pyrex measuring cup
- Airlock
4. Process
- Clean everything. EVERYTHING.
- Sanitize everything. I mixed a big bucket of StarSan sanitizer (~7ml of StarSan in 1 gallon of distilled water) and used this to sanitize the equipment.
- Take a gravity reading using the hydrometer and beaker.
- Re-hydrate the yeast in 50ml of warm water.
- Pour in half the apple juice.
- Add yeast nutrient
- Add hydrated yeast and swirl and shake to oxygenate.
- Add in the rest of the juice and swirl some more for more oxygen.
- Fill airlock with some sanitized water and put it on.
- Check back in 2 weeks.
